Donnie Darko (2001) Movie Review

The Bunny Said The World Will End In 28 Days…

His name is Donnie Darko and he is a high school kid. Donnie has two friends and a pretty girlfriend. Life seems pretty good for Donnie, but it all changed after the bizarre accident. He begins to see a giant bunny named Frank who tells him to do bad things.

To say the movie is surreal is a compliment. Donnie Darko is weird and symbolic at the same time. The idea of using the bunny as a metaphor of something bad is going to happen, or that Donnie is trapped in a limbo, is pretty clever. The film started out as a horror film combine with some slasher. But after you get the hang of it, Donnie Darko just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Richard Kelly is a genius for writing and directing this beautifully dark movie. The movie can be supernatural too at times, but it works since it makes the movie more mysterious. The fact that I couldn’t predict the ending makes me love it even more. Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie is amazing to watch; he scared me pretty good. My favourite scene is when Donnie’s psychiatrist treat Donnie with hypnosis and uncover some crazy truth!

Donnie Darko is one smart thriller that keeps you guessing. Your head’s gonna hurt but hey! it’s worth it.

I really want to watch this one and just never get around to it. That bunny does look freaky as all hell. Just imagine it wielding a machete….OH NOOOOOOOOO
